Newborn Photography
September 27, 2009
Newborn photography is one of my favorite sessions. I am always blessed to photograph each new little one and love to create timeless portraits. Newborn portraits are best when the portraits are taken within the first 2 weeks of life. I have taken newborn portraits as late as 5 weeks, but normally at 5 weeks babies are aware and alert. Most newborns are very tired and sleep most of the session.
I suggest you allot between 1-3 hours for a newborn session. Newborns are unpredictable. We may spend most of the time feeding and changing baby; however, once the baby is sleeping the real fun can begin! The actual portraits may only take between 20-30 mins.
I also suggest that you bring a change of clothing for yourself. When we are working with a bare bottom, there are bound to be some “accidents”.
Newborn portraits are one of the most treasured portraits for parents. Children change more in the first year than any other time in life. I have never had a parent regret taking newborn portraits; however, I have had parents regret not getting their child’s portraits sooner. Most parents contact me when their baby is 3-4 months old. This age is a great age to get portraits started, but the 3-4 month sessions are not the same as the newborn sessions.
